Jaguar has unveiled its new electric vehicle concept car, the I-Pace Concept, which it says has the practicality of an SUV and the performance of a sports car.
It’s the luxury marque’s first all-electric vehicle and Jaguar says it can travel for more than 310 miles on one charge. That would mean the average motorist would only need to recharge the vehicle once a week. Jaguar visualises the I-Pace Concept being used as an owner’s main car rather than one driven alongside a conventionally powered vehicle.
The entry of Jaguar into the electric car market is further proof that alternatively powered vehicles are starting to make real inroads into the general market. A number of recent reports have pointed to increasing sales of electric vehicles and it’s likely that there will soon be more available in the used car market. The I-Pace Concept was created from a design brief for a performance electric vehicle able to seat five people.
Ian Callum, Jaguar’s director of design, said: "The I-Pace Concept is a radical departure for electric vehicles. It represents the next generation of battery electric vehicle design.
"It’s a dramatic, future-facing design – the product of authentic Jaguar DNA matched with beautiful, premium details and British craftsmanship.
"This isn’t just a concept. It is a preview of a five-seat production car that will be on the road in 2018. This will be Jaguar’s first-ever battery-powered electric vehicle and opens a new chapter in the history of our legendary brand."
