A huge fire ripped through a car dealership and garage on Saturday with 50 fire fighter from the surrounding area involved in putting out the blaze.
The fire at Yorkshire's Mirfield Prestige garage business and West Riding Jaguar, which are located next to Kenmore Caravans, was reported at 8:30pm. Reports confirmed that a large number of vehicles on the forecourt of the garage had been damaged in the fire, but thankfully no-one was hurt. Witnesses claimed that the fire was started at the front of the premises and that one of the motor homes parked in the area may have been the source of the fire.
Stories like this are all-too common and should be considered a warning for dealership and garage owners who are uninsured against fire or flood damage. Whatever your speciality in the motor trade, there's a specific insurance for you, whether it be commercial vehicle repairers insurance or new and used car dealership insurance, for example.
The witnesses who live nearby said they heard explosions, which sounded like gas bottles, before they saw the fire. One witness said: “It was about 8.30pm and a friend was dropping my 18-year-old daughter off.
“Katie said ‘there’s some smoke’ over there but at first I just thought it was someone burning some rubbish. But five minutes later there was a flash and we knew something was happening.”
The managing director of West Riding Jaguar, David Bye, told The Huddersfield Daily Examiner: “Luckily the fire was in the opposite end of the building and has not affected our business too much apart from some smoke damage."
